Location -
western bank of the River Trent opposite East Butterwick four miles
north east of Epworth.
The
Doomsday Book (1086) referred
to the village as
"Butruic".

Westbuterwyk
The
name - can be translated to 'dairy farm where butter is
made'. West in relation to East Butterwick on the opposite side
of the Trent Bank.
