Bonby
is one of five that lie on the road that
runs between the River Humber & Brigg.
The five villages, collectively known as
the "Low Villages" as they are
located along the foot of the North Lincolnshire
Wolds are Worlaby,
Bonby,
Saxby-all-Saints,
Horkstow
& South
Ferriby.
The Village has a number
of interesting buildings including Church
of Saint Andrew, Wesleyan and Primitive
Methodist chapels, the reading room,
You can also enjoy the River Ancholme as
well as taking in the spectacular views
of the Ancholme Valley from the Wolds.

The
Location -
4
miles South of the River Humber on the north-western
edge of the Wolds. It lies approximately
6 south-south-west from Barton and 7 north
from Brigg.

The
Place-name & its Origins |
The
Doomsday Book (1086) referred to
the town as "Bundebi".
Other names - for the village
include "Bondebi and Bondby".
The name - can be translated
to "Farmstead or village of the peasant
farmer", alternatively "Bondi's
farmstead, village".

King John, as a cell to the Abbey of St

Methodist
Chapel - In case Methodism did
not take off the many of the early churches
were built in a style which would enable
them to be turned into farm cottages. This
is true of the small
Methodist Church which can be found on the
by the main road as you pass through the
village.
The
Reading Room here was built by
subscription in 1888 on land given by the
Earl of Yarborough P.C. the lord of the
manor and principal landowner, and is provided
with billiard and bagatelle tables.....

church of St Andrew is an ancient
edifice of brick, in the Early English style,
consisting of chancel, nave, south porch,
and a western tower containing 3 bells:
the church has been partially restored at
a cost of £300, of which £250
was furnished by the Rev. George Crowle
Uppleby, of Barrow Hall, late vicar 1893-95,
