General
A new visitors centre set within the nationally important wildlife habitat was opened in 2007
The Centre has striking views across the estuary and nature reserve and was officially opened by David Bellamy in June 2007, Far Ings offers brand new facilities for the whole family with interactive exhibitions and a gift shop.
Visitors will be able to find out more about the wildlife and also how the landscape was created. There are
teaching facilities with an outdoor platform for schools and a bird hide.
The visitor centre has been created with the help of a grant of £460,000 from Yorkshire Forward.
Far Ings Nature Reserve includes a number of clay pits flooded with freshwater with lush reedbeds, surrounded by meadows and hawthorn scrub. The area is very important & is a haven for a wide variety of waterfowl and reedbed birds.
